July Fourth is just around the corner! We are issuing a Sarasota Sun and Skin Alert for the upcoming Independence Holiday. An Altiora Plastic Surgery and Medspa Special Alert is a special warning. We are alerting you about the intense skin damage and premature aging of the rays of the sun.
You see, we know you have begun making plans for your COVID-19 bubble of family and friends to celebrate. That’s why we want you to be prepared. We do not risk healthy skin on July Fourth, 2020.
Suntans are Risky Business
This is our official warning that the July 4 sun should be taken with extreme caution! We want you to take steps to protect your skin. And we are not just saying this because we have a fine sunscreen available. We are genuinely concerned about Sarasota skin. Last week’s blog statistics on melanoma bore witness to our sincerity.
Free Tips to Honor Your Skin While you Honor the traditions of the July Fourth week-end.
Over the years July Fourth has has become a time of fireworks, picnics, and beach parties. However, the sunshine alert makes it vital to protect our skin. Therefore, we have chosen to share handy tips for surviving the harmful rays. Although the July Fourth holiday merits our special alert, you can observe the following free tips all summer long here in Sarasota.
Free July Fourth Skin Safety Tip 1: Tick! Tock! Watch the Sunshine Clock
We know the sun can seem golden sweet and tempting. But please check the time. If you have the urge to sun worship, sun-bathe, lay out or tan, we recommend that you stay away from the sun between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
Why? The Altiora answer is simple. You see, those are the hours that carry the worst of the sun”s harmful UVA and UVB rays right to the tiny skin-cells. Those are the hours you are most likely to attract skin damage.
Even after those hours, we advise you to use awnings, cabanas, and sun umbrellas. And, would you believe you still need to use sunscreen, even in the Sarasota shade?
Free July Fourth Skin Safety Tip 2: Use Your Head
Please forgive us if these fast, free skin safety tips sound a little like fashion advice. Gorgeous wide-brimmed hats are available in almost every store in St. Albans. But, would you believe, there is an art to buying a safe sunhat? In fact, we have several cautions for choosing such a hat for protection from the sun.
1. Did you know half-brim hats, scoop hats and (cringe) ball caps are actually poor sun protection? Lacey or loosely woven brims do not help you either.
2. We hope you pick a wide brimmed hat that encircles your head and shades your neck and shoulders. It might not be as fashionable as some, but we have been advising patients for years. Actually, the best hat for sun protection, bottom-line, is a dark-colored canvas hat.
Also, Altiora Plastic Surgery & Med spa wants to make one thing perfectly clear: As we have said before, “No hat in the world is enough protection, unless you also apply your sunscreen.”
Safety Tip 3. Try Our Stylish Hemline Advice!
We are amazed that we are seeing more and more long shirts and skirts than ever before on the streets, sidewalks and beaches of Sarasota. For once, our sun-sense and style sense have blended. This style is really sun-dressing at its best.
Safety Tip 4: Surprise Your Precious Eyes With Protection
Happy July Fourth! Did you know that everyone look like movie stars in our Wrap-around sunglasses. Aviator, cat eyes or Round, a good pair of sunglasses protects the delicate tissue of the eye area from almost 100% of both UVA and UVB rays.
Did you know that good sunglasses also protect you from cataracts?
Safety Tip 5: Be Sunscreen Smart July Fourth, 2020
Invest in a new bottle of sunscreen. You do know that the bottle from last summer is probably worthless now.
Important Points about Your Sunscreen
Our biggest point is that no sunscreen is strong enough to protect your skin, if it stays in a beach-bag, your bathroom, or your car.
- Seriously, be sure to apply your sunscreen to all exposed areas of your skin.
- Then be certain to save your skin from the suns damaging rays by reapplying it if you go into the water, sweat, or rub down with a towel.
This July Fourth and every summer day to follow here in Sarasota is sure to bring you many opportunities for sunshine and sunburn. Please take care.
Sunshine, July Fourth and Staying Safe
We know, a bronze colored skin is considered to be stylish. Isn’t ironic that this golden, glowing bronze signifies sun damage?
Please consider the dangers inherent in that deep bronze Sarasota-tan color: If you do not have smart sun habits, you are taking some serious risks.
- You are risking skin cancer,
- Premature skin aging,
- Wrinkles and ugly age spots.
And we know these are not chic.
A Pound of Cure for Your July Fourth Sun Adventures
