Jessner’s Peels®

Jessner’s Solution is a peeling agent generally combining salicylic acid, lactic acid and resorcinol in an ethanol based solution that can be used to lighten areas of hyperpigmentation and treat aged or sun damaged skin. This type of peel is a little more aggressive than glycolic acid peels and may give more dramatic results. The skin typically will peel between the third and fifth day after treatment and will tend to be a light pink color for one to two weeks afterwards. In some individuals the healthy pink color may last a longer period of time. The Jessner’s peel is sometimes done as a preliminary peel and immediately followed by use of a TCA Peel.

TCA Peels

TriChlorAcetic Acid peels are a medium depth peel that can be used to effectively treat fine lines and wrinkles, pigmentation changes, acne scars, freckles, and other skin conditions. TCA can be applied in different strengths, commonly ranging from 20–35%, depending on the depth of penetration of the skin we are intending to treat.

Diamond Glow®

More than a glow, a skin transformation. Experience DiamondGlow® – a next-level, non-invasive skin-resurfacing treatment, designed to work with SkinMedica® advanced skincare products. Together, they deliver radiant, healthy-looking skin. DiamondGlow® is more than a facial. Unlike traditional wet facial treatments, which rely chemical exfoliation to treat skin at surface level, DiamondGlow’s® patented recessed diamond tip wand delivers a next-level resurfacing treatment that deeply cleans and rejuvenates the skin.

CO2 Facial Laser Resurfacing

The CO2 laser can be used to treat specific areas of the face (such as eyelids, around the mouth, or forehead) or the entire face in one treatment. The treatment will remove the epithelial layer of the skin, tighten the collagen of the underlying dermis, and in so doing helps to dramatically remove fine lines and wrinkles while evening out pigmentation in the skin. It also helps with acne scarring and treatment of sun damaged skin. This results in a younger and more radiant facial appearance without the need for an incision.

For optimal results, patients are required to undergo pre-treatment of the skin with a bleaching agent combined with a retinol-based product. There is some down time associated with this procedure, as the facial skin will be very pink for several weeks afterwards. Patients undergoing treatment most avoid sun exposure during the recovery period. Although this procedure has a little longer recovery time than typical chemical peels, it offers substantially more dramatic results with just one treatment. This procedure is usually done under general anesthesia.

Microneedling

SkinPen® is a non-surgical, cosmetic micro-needling device for the creation of “micro” skin punctures to improve the appearance of the skin.   The micro skin punctures allow for the controlled induction of the skin’s self-repair process to assist in reducing the signs of aging, lessen the prominence of stretch marks, and soften the appearance of acne scars.  The device is electric and sterile single use cartridges are utilized. The procedure is painless.  In many cases, topical nutrients, hyaluronic acid or peptides are applied to the skin right after to procedure.  Most patients receive a series of 3 procedures spaced about 4 weeks apart, but your provider will plan a specific treatment regimen tailored to your needs.

Botox®

Botox® is a purified protein derivative of onabotulinumtoxinA, prepared in a very dilute form of the medication. Botox® affects the nerve endings of the muscles where it is injected to weaken the muscle, and thereby softens wrinkles in the face. The medication is injected by a trained health care professional, such as a physician or certified Physician Assistant (PAC), or ARNP. After injection, you will notice improvement in the wrinkles in about 10 days.

The results usually last for about 3 months. The FDA approved use of Botox® is for treatment of glabellar frown lines, but Botox® is commonly and safely used to treat forehead wrinkles, crow’s feet wrinkles, and to sculpt the shape of the eyebrow. Side effects include pain at the injection site, rare allergic reactions, and very rarely ptosis of the eyelid. Its use is contraindicated with neuromuscular conditions such as Myasthenia Gravis.

It is sometimes used in conjunction with dermal filler materials, such as Juvederm, for a “lunch time” or “scar less facelift.” In order to reduce the incidence of side effects, patients are required to avoid rubbing the areas of injection for 6 hours after the treatment.

Juvederm®

JUVÉDERM® is composed of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance found in the dermis of human skin. This filler material is essentially a sugar – protein in structure. It has a crystalline composition that attracts water molecules, hydrating the skin. It is often used in a form that has a local anesthetic mixed with it to help lessen the discomfort of the injections. Side effects may include pain or redness at the injection site, and rare allergic reactions. Unlike collagen, this medication does not require pre-treatment skin testing, because allergic reactions are so uncommon.

The medication was initially approved by the FDA for treatment of wrinkles in the nasal-labial folds (smile lines), but it is commonly and safely used off label as dermal filler for other areas of the face as well. Our highly trained staff of certified physician assistants regularly treat patients with Juvederm®. The procedure takes only minutes and patients can usually return to work immediately. The results may last for up to one year.

JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA® XC is the latest edition to the Juvederm filler collection.  Volbella is tailored to add subtle volume to the lips and smooth the appearance of vertical lip lines (sometimes called “smoker’s wrinkles.”)  This filler is very soft and gives a luxurious and luscious appearance to the lips.

JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC is the only filler proven to last up to 2 years in the cheek area.  It is designed to add fullness to the cheek area to correct age-related volume loss.  When enough volume is restored to one’s cheeks, it may improve one’s overall facial profile, and it may also give a mild lift to the facial appearance.

“Lunchtime Facelift,” “Liquid Facelift,” & “Scarless Facelift”

These are terms many doctors’ offices commonly use to refer to non-surgical facelift alternatives. In such procedures, a combination of chemo-denervation agents and filler material may be used to achieve a more youthful look, without actually having surgery. As an example, such a procedure may involve using Botox® for treatment of glabellar frown lines and to give a mild lateral brow lift, combined with use of Juvederm® to fill in the wrinkles of the nasal labial folds.

These treatments may also be combined with a light chemical peel to restore a more radiant glow to the face. In some cases, injections of these medications may be considered as “off label” usage, but the procedures are done commonly and can be done safely as a non-surgical approach. Generally, there will be some immediate improvement to the facial appearance, but the full impact may take several weeks to be fully appreciated.
