More and more 21st century mothers are choosing to restore their bodies to “pre” baby condition. In addition to healthy exercise and diet, these women are electing a type of cosmetic surgery know as the “Mommy Make Over.”  Many young mothers know that a “Mommy Make Over” involves “multiple plastic surgery procedures that restore, or improve, their post-pregnancy bodies.”  The “Mommy Make Over” is individualized, however, it most commonly involves a breast-lift, perhaps a breast augmentation, an abdominoplasty (tummy-tuck or a mini tummy-tuck,) and liposuction. There are different possiblilities depending on a woman’s body type and ultimate goals.

Because “Mommy Make Over” is actually a marketing term, not a surgical one, Douglas Mackenzie, MD, a board-certified plastic surgeon in Santa Barbara, Calif., has explained that exact numbers of “mommy make-overs” might be underestimated. Additionally, ASPS (American Society of Plastic Surgeons) statistics report that the number of women getting “mommy makeover” procedures is rising every day. In general, tummy tucks have risen 85 percent since 2000. Breast lifts are up 70 percent since 2000 and breast augmentations are up 39 percent since 2000. Both of these surgical procedures together, done on a young mother, have become the essense of the  “mommy make-over.” Read more statistics and detailed information here.

Briefly stated,”In abdominoplasty, the excess skin and fat are removed surgically from the abdominal area. Depending on the needs of the patient, the muscles of the abdominal wall are tightened. “The incision is a half moon shaped, and is usually made directly under the overhanging skin.” (Study more here.)

To read in detail about this procedure, we refer you to “Procedures” page on our own Orlando Cosmetic Surgery, L.L.C. website. For details about breast lifts and/or augmentation, we invite you to click on several special pages of information in the website. We also invite you to watch Dr. Cicilioni’s personal video concerning breast surgeries.

Here at Orlando Cosmetic Surgery, we very much appreciate our clients who are young mothers. We believe that this group of clients proves much about the public acceptance of cosmetic surgery. We are proud that there is nothing in our culture that says a mother can not look her best, her youngest, her strongest, and her most beautiful after she has had children.

Many patients agree with Dana Van Gray, a patient who shared that her new body did more than enhance her appearance. She gained a great deal of self-confidence and a better attitude. She stated, “I feel good so I can be a better mom to my kids.”

If you are considering a Mommy Make-over, we offer you these three helpful tips:

1. Watch the Calendar: Wait at least six months to one year after having your last child to undergo “Mommy Makeover” procedures

2. Make A Plan: Know the details of your ‘post-baby body goals,’ so that your surgeon can make good recommendations to you.

3. Count Your Calories: If you plan to lose some weight, do it well in advance of your surgery, and do it with healthy eating habits. Read more suggested tips by clicking here.

A survey released from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) shows that if cost were not an issue, 62 percent of mothers would consider a “Mommy Makeover.”
