In our previous blog, we concentrated on the gentlemen, and some surprising statistics regarding their growing appreciation for cosmetic surgery. More and more men are enjoying the competitive edge of confidence, cosmetic procedures can give them.
Indeed, when we view the newly released statistics of 2013, we can see that both men and women are discovering the value and pleasure of looking fit and energetically youthful.
Have you begun to contemplate a surgical or non-surgical cosmetic procedure? You are not alone. According to Robert X. Murphy Jr, MD, assistant chief medical officer of the Lehigh Valley Health Network in Allentown, Pennsylvania, and the president of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, we can see an upward trend in the number of cosmetic surgeries “for the fourth year in a row.” Many of the surgical procedures have risen three per cent since 2012.
1. An Impressive Number! If you like statistics, you will feel good about this number: 15.1 Million Cosmetic Procedures were performed in 2013. So, if you are dreaming about a new or renewed “look,” you can see why we say you are not alone!
2. An Important Number: Add this to 5.7 million reconstructive surgery procedures accomplished last year.
3. Break it down! By the numbers, non-surgical or minimally invasive procedures such as botox had a full three percent rise in use, whereas more invasive surgical procedures rose one per cent. On the one hand, the most popular injections continue to be botulinum toxin type A, which has statistically leapt 700% since the year 2000. On the other hand, top surgical procedures included:
- Breast augmentation,
- Nose reshaping,
- Eyelid surgery,
- Liposuction, and Facelifts.
As we have mentioned previously, 2013 also saw a rise in the number of butt lifts performed, and neck-lifts have become increasingly popular. All of these trends were collected by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, based on their annual statistical evaluation forms and data gathered “through the first online national database for plastic surgery procedures, Tracking Operations and Outcome for Plastic Surgeons (TOPS). This data was combined with an annual survey sent to American Board of Medical Specialties.
If you are in your 30’s, 40’s, or 50’s, the statistics prove that you won’t find it shocking if you reveal your cosmetic surgery secrets to your friends. Chances are, they will have chosen botox, fillers or surgical procedures themselves.
Public opinion has decided that cosmetic surgery is not a secret vice, or the resort of vanity and self-indulgence. It has become as accepted upkeep in today’s world, comparable to your trips to the gym or the beauty salon.
